Great news for North Carolina residents! The North Carolina Secretary of State (NCSOS) is preparing to launch Remote Electronic Notarization (REN/RENA), a modernized notarial process that will provide unprecedented convenience and security.
What is Remote Electronic Notarization (REN)?
REN allows a Notary Public to notarize documents for a signer who is not physically present. Using secure audio-visual technology, the notary can verify the signer's identity and witness the signing in real-time, from anywhere. The documents are signed and notarized electronically, creating a more robust and tamper-evident record.
According to the NC Secretary of State, this initiative is designed to "provide even more convenience and flexibility to the notarial process" for all North Carolinians, aligning our state with a growing national standard.
